Georgia Tech Names Palavi Vaidya a President's Scholar

2012 Mar 30

The Georgia Institute of Technology has named Palavi Vaidya of Grand Rapids, MI, one of 75 President's Scholars. A Biomedical Engineering major, Vaidya represents the top one percent of early applicants to Georgia Tech.

Considered the most prestigious merit award offered to incoming Georgia Tech first-year students, the President's Scholarship emphasizes scholarship, leadership, progress and service. Recipients are selected by a committee of Georgia Tech admissions professionals, scholarship administrators, faculty and President's Scholar alumni. More than 530 semifinalists were evaluated.

Over four years, President's Scholars from Georgia will be awarded a package valued at approximately $60,000 while out-of-state recipients will receive $112,000.

"This investment in our state's and nation's most promising youth furthers Georgia Tech's mission through supporting students and producing alumni who will positively influence major technological, social and policy currents worldwide, " said Chaffee Viets, director of the President's Scholarship Program.
